Caroline Webb has been designing and carving inscriptions since graduating with a degree in Typography 30 years ago. Caroline is one of the few lettercarvers specialising in carving fine lettering in wood for both small intimate pieces and larger scale projects. For many years she collaborated with poet Ian Hamilton Finlay, contributing numerous works to exhibitions, private collections and to his garden Stonypath.

Caroline's work reflects her particular delight in quiet detail and her knowledge of the historical development of letterforms. Her approach to lettercarving is simple; through her love of literature, especially poetry, she understands the power of words and appreciates the importance of simplicity in communication. So it is natural that she favours traditional forms in the way that she handles the relationship between meaning, letterforms and design.

Caroline lives and works in Wiltshire and is an elected member of the Art Workers Guild and Letter Exchange.
